Section 6.9 – Liver Mobilisation

Liver mobilisation requires division of regions of mesentery and

Regions of peritoneal reflection

The falciform ligament, a region of mesentery, is first divided up to its posterior limit

At that point, the right and left coronary ligaments or regions of reflection

Are encountered and can be divided

Division of the left coronary reflection or ligament

Mobilises the left lobe of the liver

The right lobe of the liver is mobilised by firstly retracting the liver medially

The right coronary ligament or reflection is identified

And sharply divided

Then the dissector separates the posterior surface of the liver from the underlying fascia

This process helps detach the right lobe of the liver

The right lobe of the liver is gradually separated from the underlying fascia

As far medially as possible

The medial limit of detachment occurs at the inferior vena cava
