Section 6.14 – Exposure of the coeliac and superior mesenteric arterial trunks

At this point, only the hilum of the mesentery

Containing the superior mesenteric artery and coeliac trunk

Connects the mesenteric domain to the body in general

Within the hilum the major vascular connections

Are surrounded by connective tissue, forming a collar of connective tissue

The mesenteric domain is retracted either to the left or the right

This exposes the hilum and allows the dissector dissect through the

The arterial trunks are closely positioned in the hilum

When the connective tissue surrounding the trunks is excised

The relationship between the posterior surface of the mesenteric

Domain and the trunks is  apparent
